Weight Goals

Jun 20, 2019

Whenever I start working with someone to lose weight, we always discuss the Goal. I call it your Ideal Weight or your Goal Weight. Not to be confused with a Weight Goal.

Weight Goals and Ideal Weight are two different things.

Now, they could be the same thing, but it’s useful to think of them as two separate things when you’re starting a weight loss journey.

A Weight Goal is the first stop on the way to your Ideal Weight.

Sometimes...

To Fast or Not to Fast?

Jun 13, 2019

Just to be clear, you already fast.

Every day.

Every time you snuggle in bed for the night, you’re not eating for hours in a row. And then you break the fast by eating . . . well, breakfast.

So fasting itself is not the issue.

The trending topic of Intermittent Fasting highlights fasting for weight control.

There are different ways to get that done:

Some fans of fasting suggest fasting 2 out of every 7 days, other more extremists support...

School's Out! Changing Your Schedule is In.

Jun 06, 2019

I just watched my kid’s final social studies presentation. I was such a proud mama. It’s hard to believe the school year’s coming to an end. Another transition.

That means a change in schedules.

Many can’t wait for summer to arrive, only counting the days ‘til school’s out and morning routines loosen.

But, as always, I’m here to remind you it’s a good idea to anticipate the changes and plan for them :)

Your ONE Thing

May 30, 2019

I just finished Gary Keller’s The ONE Thing.

It’s a productivity book.

I’ve been into those lately and I’m surprised by how much I’ve learned from this genre. I consider myself an organized person, but some of these concepts (nothing earth-shatteringly new by the way) have made a huge difference.

Because I’ve committed to them.

Sound familiar?

We can think we know a lot about a subject, but being...

Lessons I (Re)learned from 800 Extra Calories

May 23, 2019

It was just Mother’s Day and now Memorial Day is coming up.

Any holiday has the potential to derail our food plan so I usually take the opportunity to remind us all of the pit falls to watch for so we can have a successful (eating) day or weekend.

This Mother’s Day came and went without much of the usual advice from me about:

  • Focusing on connection with the people at your event instead of the food
  • Planning how to get through the family celebration...

Get Some Traction on Your Goals

May 16, 2019

Recently I noticed I was spinning my wheels.

Looking and feeling busy but not moving forward as I claimed I wanted to.

No traction.

Frustrating.

I needed a new plan. So I started at the beginning.

I had to DECIDE what was really important, PRIORITIZE my activities, SCHEDULE them, then KEEP MY WORD to myself.

If you find yourself in the same boat, giving lip service to a goal (weight loss, perhaps) but not making headway toward it, I invite you to...

Friends and Food: 18 Ways to Connect Without Calories

May 09, 2019

Studies show that people with strong social networks live longer. Check out this cool infographic from WebMD to see how.

Getting together with a friend is one of life’s great pleasures.

But all too often, in this day and age, it comes with lots of extra calories. Our go-to get-togethers revolve around food—brunch, lunch, dinners.

They don’t have to.

There are so many ways to connect that don’t involve food.

If you...

3 Tips for Road Trip Eating

May 02, 2019

We just came back from a trip to the Grand Canyon.  Active, breathtaking and fun!

I love National Parks.

Such beauty and I feel a sense of community—this land is preserved by us (our government) to be enjoyed by all.  Love that.

But the food is another story.

It was a road trip, so the eating became challenging right from the start.

We ate at places like The Wagon Wheel, Giggling Cactus, Big E Steakhouse & Saloon and Big...

Lesson Learned from French Fries

Apr 25, 2019

I’m a French Fry Snob . . . well, that actually implies that I might meet a fry I didn’t like.  Ha!

I think French Fry Fanatic is more like it (although, steak fries? Really?)

I was recently at a conference and it was dinner break time. I took myself to a reliable place with the best shoestring fries AND sweet potato fries on the planet.

Mercifully, you can order a 50/50 split, but the portion size is enormous and it was just me.   I...

Goal Weight and Maintenance

Apr 18, 2019

There’s an interesting phenomenon I’ve noticed with my clients.

It’s about their goal weight.

They’re doing beautifully, losing lots of weight and nearing their target. They look great, feel great and have their food dialed in. They’re wearing a clothing size they’re real happy with.

The last couple of pounds often take a bit longer than the first because the new reasonable amount of food eaten each day reaches a...
